At least 64 academic certificates of 35 cadets, money and personal goods were burnt to ashes in a fire at Bangladesh Police Academy of Charghat's Sardah in Rajshahi on Saturday morning.

A fire broke out on the ground floor of the 6-storey outdoor cadet barracks of the Police Academy.

Bangladesh Police Academy's Additional Police Super (SP) Shahabuddin Ahmed said the cause of the fire is not yet known. However, it is initially assumed that the fire caused damage worth of Tk 10-12 lakh.

In this incident, a 5-member investigation committee was constituted with additional SP Sharif Ahmed. The committee has been asked to submit the report within 7 days.

When the cadets were taking part in training at around 6am on Saturday, a fire broke out presumably originating from electrical short circuits at the 6-storied building for the external cadets of the academy.

Seeing the smoke, the Charghat Fire Service was immediately informed. Fire service workers came and brought the fire under control, added SP.

However, the situation is completely normal and regular training programs are going on at present.
