Orange's bumper production in red soil

Bumper production of oranges surrounding the Verandra zone of Rajshahi gives farmers a light of hope.

They are happy to have a great success and thinking about cultivating other produces in this area.

Farmers are also getting a good price for per kg orange and eager for cultivation of not only orange but also other crops cultivable in this hard red soil.

Godagari Agricultural Extension officials said Rajesh of Ishwaripur under Deopara union of Godagari cultivated Bari-1 orange in one hectare land spending 20 thousand per bigha and had good production. He did it in consultation with the local agronomists, they added.
 
Rajesh said he planted orange saplings in one hectare land two years ago with the help of Atanu Sarkar, sub-assistant agricultural officer of Ishwaripur block. Then he took care of the saplings much.

Now orange plants have grown up enough and giving dividend. Rajesh said 10 kg orange was sold last week and buyers at the rate of Tk 100/120 for per kg. Thus he has become self depended.

Atanu sarkar explained that farmers could cultivate their land for once in a year. They had to wait due to inadequate irrigation. But now they have another way of cultivation, i.e. fruit production.

Shafiqul Islam, agriculture officer of Godagari upazila, said the soil of Verandra is good for fruit production. Upazila agricultural office counsel and provide instrumental help to the farmers so that they could be more practical.
