According to section 4 of the Right to information Act, 2009, every citizen has the right to seek information from any government institution or organization, any private organization financed by government fund, NGOs, or private organizations funded by foreign aid. If the citizens demand, the aforementioned authorities are bound to provide them with information unless these are a threat to national security and intelligence. They may ask for information in the way prescribed in section 8 of the said Act. Citizens may ask for information about the status of their pending application in a government office like passports, license, electric or gas connections; or about old age benefits, VGF card or information relating to repair work on a road or bridge or any sort of info that may affect the wellbeing of the citizens.
