Dr Kazi Shahidullah, Professor of Dhaka University took over charge from the acting chairman of UGC Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah as 13th chairman of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) on yesterday.
Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah expressed his optimism that under the dynamic leadership of Prof Shahidullah, the pace and momentum of country's tertiary education will be accelerated.
Expressing his feelings on his new assignment, the new UGC chairman said that his main challenge is to ensure quality in higher education and research in the country.
He also said his agenda is to run UGC, the statutory apex body of country's higher education with government rules and regulations. He urged UGC officials to follow the disciplines and discharge their duties with honesty and sincerity.
UGC members Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr M Shah Nawaz Ali, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology VC Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed, Mawlana Bhasani Science & Technology University VC Prof Dr Md Alauddin, Dr Md Khaled, Secretary of UGC, divisional heads of UGC, were present.
The acting chairman greeted the newly appointed UGC chairman on behalf of UGC members and officials with a bouquet of flower.
