Sirajganj people are celebrating the 49th Victory Day on Monday paying deep homage to the martyrs, who laid down their lives for the country during the Liberation War in 1971.
The district administration chalked out a three-day programmes to celebrate the day, including drawing competition, patriotic song, discussion, blood donation campaign, cultural programme, cricket and football match.
After 31-gun salute, District Deputy Commissioner Dr Faruk Ahammed, lawmaker for Sadar seat Dr Habibe Millat and Sirajganj Police Superintendent Tutul Chakrabarti placed wreaths at the memorials of martyrs.
The national flag was hoisted atop all government, semi-government and private offices as well as offices of autonomous bodies.
A parade with the participation of freedom fighters, Police, Ansar-VDP, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), Fire Service and Civil Defence, different educational and social institution, held at Shahid Shamsuddin Stadium around 8:00am.
Later, a colourful procession was brought out which paraded main streets of the town.
