Death toll from Buriganga launch capsize rises to 26

The death toll from launch capsized in the River Buriganga near Dhaka's Shyambazar on Monday morning rose to 26.

Fire Service and Civil Defence director general Brig Gen Sazzad Hissain said 26 bodies were retrieved till 12:15pm. But many are still missing.

Diver of Fire Sevice and Civil Defence and members of Bangladesh Navy are continuing their rescue operation.

Of the dead, four were women and two are child.
Lunch 'Morning Bird' with over 50 passengers was heading towards Sadarghat from Munshiganj when it collided with Moyur-2 vessel around 9:33am, said BIWTA transport inspector Md Selim.

Some managed to swim ashore.
