
Suspended police inspector Liakat Ali, who is the prime accused of Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan killing case, gave confessional statement to a judge under Section 164 in Cox's Bazar on Sunday.
Liakat gave the confessional statement to Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah for about five hours--from 11:45am to 4:45pm.
He said he himself had fired bullets at Major (Retd) Sinha reaching the Shamlapur police checkpost to nab dacoit. Later, the Major died on the spot.
At that time, Liakat Ali was Teknaf's Baharchhara Police Outpost's in-charge. He is also a suspended police inspector.
He was later sent to Cox's Bazar District Jail.
A source said in his confessional statement, Liakat stated that three people of village Marishbunia phoned him and told him that a man wearing the army uniform was a member of a gang of dacoits. He was going towards Cox's Bazar and he had a pistol.
Liakat said he believed the villagers' information without any doubt and took position at Shamlapur police checkpost to nab the dacoit. He also confessed that Sinha was killed in his firing.
Investigation officer of the case and RAB-15 Cox's Bazar's senior assistant police super Khairul Islam said, "The prime accused in Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder case disclosed vital information. He himself agreed to give confessional statement coming at the court. But, he didn't know anything else what Liakat told the court."
Earlier, a team of RAB-15 brought Liakat at the court at about 12:00noon after his health check-up at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. As his confessional statement was over, Liakat was sent to Cox's Bazar District Jail by a prison van at about 5:30pm.
Earlier, APBn's ASI Shahjahan, and constables Rajib and Abdullah gave their confessional statement. After that, they were sent to jail.
RAB arrested the trio on August 17 over Major Sinha murder case. A court granted seven-day remand for them the next day.
On July 31 night, Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, 36, was killed in police firing at a checkpost at Shamlapur area under Baharchhara union along the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive.
Later, his sister Sharmen Shahria Ferdousi filed a case where she made Baharchhara Investigation Centre's Inspector Liakat Ali as prime accused and Teknaf Police Station OC as the accused number two. Besides, seven more policemen were made accused in the case.
Senior ASP Khairul Islam, also RAB's investigation officer of the case, Director of Legal and Media wing Lt Col Ashique Billah, Director of Intelligence wing Lt Col Md Sarwar-Bin-Quasem and others were present at the spot.
