More than 50 devotees received multiple burn injuries when an airconditioner inside a mosque at Khanpur Tolla area in Narayanganj city exploded during the Esha payers on Friday.
Thirty-eight of the devotees were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka. Condition of them was stated to be very critical as 60-70 per cent of their bodies were burnt.

The rest of the injured devotees were admitted to the Victoria Hospital in Narayanganj city.
Witnesses said there were six airconditioners inside the Baitus Salam Jame Mosque at Tolla in the city. The devotees were offering Esha paryer on Friday night. Suddenly, the electricity went off. When the Faraj part of Esha prayer was just completed, electricity came back.
One of the devotees told journalists that there was a leakage in an AC's pipe. As the electricity came back, it suddenly exploded with heavy sound. Instantly, the fire from that AC had spread to the rest five other ACs, injuring more than 50 devotees inside the mosque.
Fire fighters and law enforcers went to the spot hearing about the explosions.
Narayanganj Fire Services deputy assistant director Abdullah Arefin said many devotees received multiple burn injuries following explosions in six airconditioners.
