Another two murder cases filed against OC Pradeep

Another two cases have been filed against suspended Teknaf Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Saha, the main accused in Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan killing case, and 31 others for killing two people in crossfire.

With these, 10 murder cases have, so far, been filed against OC Pradeep.

Laila Begum and Halima Khatun, wives of crossfire victims Noor Ahmed of Nazirpara and Saleh Ahmed respectively of Dailpara under Teknaf upazila, lodged the case with the court of Cox's Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Helal Uddin on Monday.

Of the accused, 28 are policemen.

Quoting the case statement, plaintiff Laila's lawyer Mustaq Ahmed said the accused policemen picked up Noor Ahmed from in front of Teknaf Palli Bidyut office on March 19 in 2019 and demanded Tk 40 lakh from him.

The family gave Tk 5 lakh.

As the family could not provide the rest amount of the demanded money, they killed him putting him into crossfire at night, the statement added.

However, the court took the case into cognizance and asked the police station to report within 15 days whether a case was filed and a probe report was made in this incident or not, he added.

Meanwhile, plaintiff Halima's lawyer Nurul Hossain Nahid said the accused policemen took Saleh Ahmed from his house on October 18, 2019, and demanded Tk 5 lakh from him.

The family gave them Tk 50,000, but failed to meet the remaining amount.  Later, they killed him in the same way.

However, the court asked the police station to submit the documents related to this case within 12 days, he added.

On July 31, Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at night a check post at Shamlapur area under Baharchhara union along the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive.

Later, his sister filed a case where she made Baharchhara Investigation Centre’s Inspector Liakat Ali as prime accused and Teknaf Police Station OC as the accused number two. Besides, seven more policemen were made accused in the case.
