Leaders of internet service providers and cable operators have called-off their strike after receiving assurance from the government on looking into their demands.
MA Hakim, president of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) and Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) president SM Anwar Parvez made the announcement following a virtual meeting with Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar in the evening.
ISPAB president said they suspended symbolic three-hour internet shutdown and dish cable programme which was scheduled to begin from tomorrow (Sunday).
Earlier, the two organizations announced to shut down their services across the country for three hours -- 10:00am to 1:00pm -- every day from October 18 protesting the removal of overhead cables by Dhaka North and South City Corporations.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, secretary Md Afzal Hossain and leaders of ISPAB and COAB joined the virtual programme.
Mustafa Jabbar said he discussed the issue with the principal secretary of the Prime Minister and expressed hope that the problem will be solved as early as possible.
Urging the two organizations to postpone their strike, state minister Palak said he hoped that the ongoing issue would be resolved within seven days.
