A freedom fighter reportedly took his own life by hanging himself at Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj district on Friday night.
Deceased Abdul Jalil Bangali, 68, was a resident of Kaliganj village in Ponchocroshi union in the upazila.
He was buried around 11:30am on Saturday at Kaliganj Graveyard with state honour, said Ullapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Dewan Moudud Ahmed.
Family members said he had long been suffering from stomach-ache. Last week, he returned home after taking treatment at Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College and Hospital.
On Friday morning, he again got intense stomach-ache. Could not bearing the pain, he hanged himself when no one was around.
Ullapara Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Dipak Kumar Das said after first information report, police handed over the body to the family as nothing seemed suspicious.
