The ruling Awami League is not cordial to strengthen ties among the 14-party alliance partners, alleged Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha.

Badsha, also the lawmaker from Rajshahi-2, made the comments in an interview given to our Rajshahi correspondent at his residence at Harhgram area in the city recently. In the interview he also talked about various issues including the latest general elections, formation of the cabinet and differences inside the alliance.

Regarding the situation prevailing among 14-party alliance partners, the Workers Party leader said, "Differences among the alliance partners are not visible. But I think that Awami League is not willing to sit with 14-party alliance."

He said a ruling party leader took the responsibility of the 14-party alliance spokesperson following the death of Mohammad Nasim. But, a single meeting has not yet held following the change. It makes clear that Awami League is less interested to mending the relation among the alliance.

“We formed the alliance on the basis of a moral point," he said, adding that "The alliance was formed during the reign of BNP-Jamaat led alliance government and faced torture and repression. We were continuing movement at the field level to press home our 23-point demand."

Expressing dissatisfaction over formation of cabinet of the present government, he said, “A cabinet has formed following the general elections. Awami League was supposed to hold talks with the alliance partners after the general elections about the formation of the cabinet but the party did not do it."

Badsha alleged that they (Awami League) took part in the elections with the alliance jointly but formed the government themselves.

Raising questions over Awami League's purpose in engaging with the alliance, he further said, "If the Awami League does not consider the alliance as part of a political commitment, then why did they join it. I don't find any reason behind it.”

The Workers Party leader said, “It is very regretting that the government asked us to take the position of opposition party after the polls. We formed the alliance against BNP-Jamaat alliance but today they (government) asking us to be opposition party in parliament. What is the meaning of this (proposal)?”

He said it is their party’s duty to decide what to do next.

The lawmaker said they would  continue their ideological movement. “If they (Awami League) want to keep unity inside the alliance, they should sit with us together."
