21 COVID deaths, 2,111 cases in 24 hrs

Bangladesh on Wednesday reported 21 COVID-19 deaths and 2,111 cases from coronavirus.

Country's COVID-19 death count now stands at 6,275 and cases at 4,38,795.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the matter through a press release signed by Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of DGHS, on Wednesday afternoon.

Health authorities also reported 1,893 more recoveries in a day, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,54,788.

In last 24 hours, 117 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 15,598 samples and tested 16,469.

With this, a total of 25,89,421 samples were tested in the country.

Among the newly deceased, 14 were men and seven were women. Of them, 13 were from Dhaka, three from Chittagong, two from Khulna, and one from Rajshahi, Rangpur and Barishal divisions respectively.

As of today, a total of 4,827 men (76.92 per cent) and 1,448 women (23.08 per cent) died from COVID-19 in Bangladesh.

The infection rate is 12.82 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested while the overall infection rate is 16.95.

So far, the recovery rate is 80.86 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.43 per cent.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

According to Worldometer's COVID-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 13,45,039 people globally and infected  5,60,13,327 as of Wednesday afternoon.
