Two jailed in Manikganj for lifting sand illegally

A mobile court in Manikganj district’s Daulatpur upazila sentenced two people in jail for illegally lifting sand from the River Jamuna by dredger.

The convicts are Ashraful Alam, 32, and Shahin, 24, residents of Rouha village in Khalsi union of the upazila.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jewel Ahmed sentenced Ashraful six months in jail and Shahin three months by conducting a mobile court.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Imrul Hasan said they were sentenced under the Balumohal and Soil Management Act for illegally extracting sand from the River in Baghutia area.
