Renowned music director and composer Ali Hossain, who created popular songs like "Osru Diye Lekha E Gaan", and "Holud Bato Mendi Bato", breathed his last at a hospital at Boston in the United States of America at 4:15 pm (local time) on Tuesday (Feb 16). He was 81.
On February 14 last, he wrote on his Facebook page: "Please pray for me. I have been diagnosed with end stage lung cancer. May Allah grant me Jannah. Ameen. May my music live in your hearts many more years to come."
Music director Farid Ahmed confirmed the news of Ali Hossain's death.
His namaj-e-janaza was scheduled to be held after Asr prayer at Boston local time.
Ali Hossain, one of the earliest and most versatile music director of Bangladesh film industry, created numerous timeless songs, including "Kehoi Kore Bechakena", "Ke Tumi Ele Go Amar E Jibone", "Chaturi Jane na Mor Bodhua", "Arey O Praner Raja Tumi Je Amar", "E Akash K Shakkhi Rekhe E Batash K Shakkhi Rekhe", "O Duti Noyone Shopone Choyone Nijere Je Bhule Jay Tulona Khuje Na Pay", among many others.
Besides composing for Bangla film industry, he also composed Urdu songs for the films "Chhote Saheb", "Daag", "Anari", "Coolie", and many others throughout his career.
Ali Hossain was born on March 23, 1940 in Cumilla. He worked as music director in Mustafiz's film 'Dak Babu' released in 1966.
Noted singer Shahnaz Rahmatullah sang "Holud Bato Mendi Bato" in this film. The song is still very popular among the music loving people of Bangladesh.
He received National Film Award in 1989 for his outstanding contributions as a music director in Kamal Ahmed's 'Byathar Daan'.
