Workers of two readymade garments (RMG) factories staged demonstration at Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district on Monday morning to press home their seven-point demand.

Several hundred workers of Opex and Sinha groups organised a human chain in front of the main gate of the factories at Kanchpur Industrial area and staged demonstration.

The agitating workers said the factory authorities are supposed to pay salaries within seven working days in the next month. But they do not even give the wages on day 30 in the month. Thus, their two months' salaries remain unpaid.

They also urged the authorities to implement their seven-point demand and stop other irregularities.

Additional police were deployed in the area to keep the situation under control and not let the workers to take street on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, reports our local correspondent.

Though they pledged to continue the programmes until their demands are met, the workers withdrew those in the afternoon after getting assurance from the authorities concerned.

The factory director Mohammad Tareque said the logical demands of the protesting workers would be accepted but not unreal one.
