Discipline at the state-level collapses if misrule in a country lingers, said Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rab on Sunday.

He was speaking at a discussion organised in observance of the party leader Mohammad Shahjahan's 29th anniversary of death of Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

ASM Abdur Rab observed that social harmony in Bangladesh faces great risks following the spread of religious violence over the last couple of days due to administrative inaction. As a result, the country's politics and ruling system have become totally inactive. "We should have to take lessons from these incidents," he said.

The JSD president said when democratic forces remain absent in a country, the statecraft either fails or ineffective to deal with national or international crises. The state of Bangladesh is now facing serious risks due to long term misrule.

"Social harmony in Bangladesh is being hampered due to democratic good governance. As a result, national unity is breaking down,  government is failing to contain religious violence and anarchy is spreading fast," he said.

The discussion was also addressed by Ganashasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, JSD general secretary Advocate Sanwar Hossain Talukder, Jatiya Sramik Jote president valiant freedom-fighter Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, JSD's executive president valiant freedom-fighter Md Siraj Mia, JSD executive general secretary Shahiduddin Mahmud Swapan and later Mohammad Shahjahan's wife Mafruz Ara Begum.
