At that time, Abdul Hye MP of Jhenidah-1 constituency, Tahjib Alam Siddiqui MP (who is also Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui's son) of Jhenidah-2 constituency, deputy commissioner Munira Begum, leaders of different political parties of Jhenidah district and senior officials of the administration were present.
Earlier, valiant freedom fighter Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui was given guard of honour officially. After the janaza, a helicopter carrying his body took off from Birshreshta Hamidur Rahman Stadium in Jhenidah for Dhaka.
His second namaz-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque in Dhaka, where he will be given a guard of honour.
The convener of Swadhin Bangla Kendriya Chhatra Sangram Parishad and former president of Chhatra League will be buried next to a mosque he built in Savar.
Nur-e-Alam Siddique was one of the leaders of Mujib Bahini, also known as Bangladesh Liberation Force.
He played an active role in all crucial political activities of the time, including participation in the Six-point Movement and Language Movement.
The former student leader was known as one of the four caliphs, or "Char Khalifa," of Chhatra League loyal to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman before the war. The other three were Shahjahan Siraj, ASM Abdur Rab and Abdul Kuddus Makhan.
Family sources said Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui died early Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the city.
Nur-e- Alam Siddique was born on 26 May, 1940 in the then Jhenaidah sub-division of Jashore district (Jhenidah Circuit House Para).
Siddique, former Convener of the Chattra League Foundation, was also a genius student leader in his 70's, as he served as the president of the Bangladesh Chattra League during 1970-1972.
He played a vibrant role in all the political movements, including the Six-Point Movement and the Language Movement.
Siddique was also elected a parliament member as a candidate of the Bangladesh Awami League from Jashore -2 constituency after participating in the first national parliamentary elections held in 1973.
The Liberation War veteran also participated in the seventh and eighth national parliament elections as a candidate of the ruling Awami League in 1996 and 2001 but got defeated in both the elections.
He left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter, a host of relatives, friends and well-wishers to mourn his death.
A pall of gloom has descended on Jhenidah following his death.
