Accomplished artist, singer and songwriter, Rashid Khan gets his creative inspirations from deep greenery, blue ocean and open sky. He always feels himself as a part of nature and nature provides him with muse the different aspects of life. As a naturist painter, most of his images pulsate with life significantly. His thought process is seemingly eloquent and has a touch of contemplation.
Recently Rashid visited Sydney and Melbourne for a cultural tour. On the visit, he has painted several paintings on the bank of the Bronte Beach in Sydney. When he visited Sydney, he tried to save his time for limning three paintings with rich shades, forms and composition. The paintings have done in acrylic and their modes of expressions are pure abstract expressionism. As an abstract expressionist, Rashid has repeatedly occupied with varied amorphous forms and vibrant colours.
Rashid's stayed in Sydney, triggered the artist's inclination towards nature. Air, water and soil - all natural elements - in his view remain essentially the same irrespective of places and regions, therefore nature has been addressed in its uninterrupted universatility in his works. His recent works have completely transformed and opened a new window for the viewer. The changes are composition, technique and texture- oriented. Sometimes it seems he is more conscious about space, sometimes forms. The forms give a cerebral and contemplative look to his works. His works are very expressive due to the effective use of space in his paintings. His works look very distinctive and individualistic because of his meticulous use of colour and deliberate composition. Presently his works can be regarded as abstract- expressionism where colour is most dominant aspect and forms synchronise well with colours, spaces and compositions. His distinctive techniques and compositions make him stand apart from his contemporaries.
Rashid is a painter who has been quite active in the Dhaka art circuit. He loves nature and its imaginative world propels him to paint. He works on varied subjects but his special attention is on nature and human relationships. He fervently draws the psychological temperament of human beings, their expressions and relationships. The mingling of light and shade creates a silence and serenity in his works. Nature is closely connected to his soul, as he adores basking in it. His colours can be easily interpreted by our soul and mind. Subdued and vivid -- both kinds of hues -- are properly executed on his canvas.
The whole time of the day Rashid engrosses himself with the painting. When I visit his office, I usually see him to doodle something over rough paper. Rashid individually feel doodling can assist a person's memory by expending energy just enough to keep one from inattentiveness or carelessness. A very busy professional, Rashid sketches either while having long telephonic conversations or during long meetings. He even draws while chatting and does it without any specific aim. He records his frustration, yearning, ecstasy and other experiences on paper, which becomes a mirror of his meditative mood. His doodles show the world the way he sees it, and manifest the essence of the things he has seen. It is easily understood that the artist seeks to progress with an individual style that can become a private hallmark of his artworks.
Rashid is also an avid art collector. His collections include contemporary Bangladeshi master painters and renowned painters as well as a number of promising Bangladeshi painters.
