Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said on Monday that, it was a constitutional responsibility of the police to put off acts of sabotage to create safe environment for election.
Speaking with the reporters after meeting with Dhaka Cities Ward Councilors he said, "So far we have no news of specific threat of sabotage.
He said isolated incidents of sabotage cannot hinder the election."
He said, "Voting is a democratic right. Anyone may or may not exercise their right to vote. But obstructing voting is not a democratic right."
"It is our constitutional responsibility to resist anyone involved in preventing people from voting," he added.
The Councillors said the people in their wards were interested to cast their votes.
The DMP Commissioner said the councilors agreed to work with the police in foiling acts of sabotage of some political parties.
Additional commissioner of DMP AKM Hafiz Akter, Additional commissioner Dr Mahid Uddin and other senior police officers were present.
