In Sylhet, 7 candidates of 3 constituencies boycotted Sundays election alleging that there was no voting environment.
And four of the candidates of the Sylhet-2 seat speaking at a press conference at a restaurant on Monday demanded re-polling, describing the election as farcical.
Independent candidate Muhibur Rahman, Gana Forum candidate Mokabbir Khan, Jatiya Party candidate Yahya Chowdhury, and Trinamool BNP candidate Abdur Rab Mallik said at the press conference that the election held on January 7 was completely farcical.
"We have been deceived into believing the words of the Prime Minister and the Election Commission. We had no option but to boycott the election due to absence of a fair environment. We decided to boycott the polls before noon due to widespread irregularities including beating up of our agents, forcing them to leave the polling centre, occupying the centre.
Later, at around 2 oclock, four of us gave a press statement, rejecting the 7th January polls in Sylhet-2 constituency. We also demanded re-polling. We will consult with our lawyer and move the High Court Division in a day or two.
Besides, two candidates of Sylhet-3 seat and one candidate of Sylhet-4 seat also boycotted the election.
