In the last 20 months beginning from October 2022, the Bangladesh Overseas Employment Services Ltd (BOESL), a state-owned international recruiting agency, has sent only 1,381 migrants to Malaysia under the Government to Government (G2G) arrangement between the two countries without migration cost.
Of them, 73 migrants have left Dhaka on Thursday for Malaysia while the rests 1,308 were sent at different times during the period, according to the BOESL statement given at a send off programme held at the ministrys conference room at Eskaton in Dhaka.
The programme was organized as part of sending 73 migrants to the country without migration cost.
While addressing the send off programme, State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Ovserseas Employment Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury said that there is no chance of closing the Malaysian labour market for the Bangladeshi migrants.
"The government is trying to get quota like the previous years from the South Asian country. We have communicated with the country. Hope, the market will not be closed for Bangladesh. The market remains open and will remain open for the country," he added.
He stated that restriction has been imposed on all the 14 migrants sending countries from May 31. The government has been working to sending the intending number of migrants to the country within the deadline.
Among others, BOESL Managing Director Mallick Anwar Hossain, Wages Earners Welfare Board Director General Hamidur Rahman, Probashi Kalyan Bank Managing Director Mazibur Rahman were present among others.
