Eggs, chicken, fish become dear, vegetables relent

The price of eggs crossed Tk 50 per hali (four pieces) in the citys kitchen markets in the capital. Which was Tk 45 last week and Tk 40 two weeks ago. In other words, the price of each egg has increased by Tk 10 to Tk 15 per hali in a span of two weeks.

Meanwhile, the price of vegetables has decreased in the markets of the capital. Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg has fallen in the retail market over the week. Chicken and duck eggs are being sold at high prices even though the price of vegetables has decreased. Duck eggs Tk 180 per dozen, farm brown eggs Tk 150 per dozen, farm chicken white eggs Tk 150 to Tk 155 per dozen. Sometimes the price has decreased a bit but it has increased again.

Wholesale and retail traders claim that egg prices have increased due to less supply in the market compared to demand during intense heat. And fish and meat prices are stable at a higher level.     

On Saturday, while visiting different kitchen markets, including Shyamoli Bazar and Mohammadpur Krishi Market in the capital this correspondent found that the price of green papaya and brinjal has decreased by Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg and is being sold at Tk 70 to Tk 80. Cucumber was sold by Tk 30 to Tk 40, chichinga at Tk 60, bitter gourd at Tk 50 to Tk 60, green chilli at Tk 80 to Tk 100, medium size lemon at Tk 20 to Tk 30 (four pieces) is currently being sold. Like last week, local onion is being sold at Tk 70 to Tk 80, garlic Tk 240 to Tk 250, ginger Tk 240 to Tk 250 per kg.

Ahad Mia, a vegetable seller at Shyamoli kitchen market, said the price of vegetables has decreased slightly on Saturday compared to last week. The prices of some vegetables including papaya, brinjal, cucumber, gourd have decreased by Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg compared to last week.

Housewife Alpana Begum, who came to buy vegetables at Agargaon Bazar, said the price of papaya, brinjal and cucumber is a little lower on Saturday than last week. But the question is whether it will remain until next week!

The price of broiler chicken in the market is Tk 220 to Tk 230 per kg as last week, but the price of Sonali chicken has decreased by Tk 20 to Tk 30 and is sold at the rate of Tk 370 to Tk 380 per kg. Apart from this, layer chicken is sold at the rate of Tk 350 to Tk 360 per kg. Beef is selling at Tk 750 to Tk 780 per kg and mutton at Tk 1,050 to Tk 1,100 per kg as last week.

Fish prices are stable at high prices. Rui fish weighing 1 kg or more at Tk 350 to Tk 380 per kg, pangas at Tk 200 to Tk 220 per kg, koi at Tk 250 to Tk 260, pabda at Tk 450 to Tk 500 per kg, tilapia at Tk 250 to Tk 260 per kg, silver carp at Tk 240 to Tk 250 per kg, singh Tk 450 to Tk 500, shrimp medium Tk 700 to Tk 750 per kg.
