WMS to export 8 ships in 14 months

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 28: Western Marine Shipyard (WMS), started building ships after four years' break and plans to export 8 vessels in 14 months, Managing Director Captain Sohail Hasan told reporters on Saturday.

WMS would export landing craft Rayan to the UAE in February.

WMS will  export at least eight ships over the next 14 months, including three to the United Arab Emirates.

WMS it would the first ship export from Bangladesh after a two-year gap. 

The last ship export from the country occurred in September 2022.

WMS will export two more landing craft to the UAE in July, and another in December.

It plans to export five more ships during 2025-2026. It  will export two tugboats, Khalid and Ghaya, to the UAE.
WMS will export two oil tankers in February 2026. 

It will deliver two passenger vessels, MV Rupsha and MV Sugandha, to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).

Between 2010 and 2017, WMS exported 31 ships, said its officials.

During the same period, it built 50 different types of vessels, including container ships, oil tankers and tugboats, for domestic clients.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic halted the company's exports  in 2019.
