Ctg elevated expressway renamed

The name of the first elevated expressway in Chattogram has been changed.

Earlier, the expressway was named after the late mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury -- “Mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury CDA Flyover"

Now, the name will be “Shaheed Wasim Akram Flyover” to honour the Chittagong College student Wasim Akram, who was martyred during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.

The name was changed following an order signed by Mohammad Abdul Awal, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works on Thursday (January 2).
On November 14, 2023, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the project virtually. However, full traffic movement on the flyover had not begun at that time.  The elevated expressway began trial operations in August last year.

As the flyover is fully prepared, toll collection will officially begin on Friday. Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan will it at the Patenga end of the expressway. The toll will be collected on behalf of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA).

According to the CDA, ten types of vehicles, except motorcycles and trailers, will be able to operate on the first elevated expressway in Chattogram.

A minimum of Tk30 toll will have to be paid for CNG-operated auto-rickshaws (three-wheelers), Tk 80 for cars, Tk 100 for jeep and microbus, Tk150 for pickup, Tk 200 for minibus and trucks (four-wheel), Tk 280 for bus, Tk 300 for truck (six-wheel) and Tk 450 for covered van.

Meanwhile, the vehicles to travel directly between Lal Khan Bazar and Patenga, with current entry points at Lal Khan Bazar and exits at Tiger Pass and Patenga with a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour.
