BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir left for Bangkok, Thailand in the wee hours of Tuesday for emergency eye treatment.

BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said Secretary General accompanied by his wife, Rahat Ara Begum, departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:45am on a Thai Airways flight.

Sayrul reported that Fakhrul began experiencing eye problems on Monday morning and sought immediate medical attention at United Hospital in Gulshan. After an examination, doctors found that urgent retinal surgery was required in one of his eyes.

"Following medical advice, an appointment was quickly arranged at Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok for the necessary procedure," Sayrul said.

He also conveyed a request from Fakhrul's family, asking the nation to pray for the BNP leader's swift recovery.

Just last month, on April 6, Fakhrul and his wife had travelled to Singapore for regular medical check-ups and treatment.

Yunus Ali, personal assistant to the BNP Secretary General, said the family has sought prayers from the people and party leaders and activists for his speedy recovery.
