EC extends postal vote registration deadline to Jan 5

The Bangladesh Election Commission has announced an extension of the Postal Vote BD app registration for the upcoming 13th national election and concurrent constitutional referendum, allowing voters to complete registration until midnight on January 5, 2026. 

The decision was announced by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed during a press briefing on Tuesday, December 30.

Akhtar Ahmed explained that the extension was necessary because many voters, both overseas Bangladeshis and domestic voters in three designated categories, were unable to complete the registration process by the previous deadline. The registration period was initially set to close on December 25, later extended to December 31, and now further extended to January 5.

The Postal Vote BD app enables eligible expatriate and special-category voters to register and participate in the democratic process, ensuring wider inclusion.
 
Akhtar Ahmed emphasized that this will be the final extension and no further extensions will be granted.
