The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said on Saturday that a mother faked a bomb threat on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka to Kathmandu in an attempt to prevent her married son from travelling to Nepal with his alleged extramarital partner.

So far, RAB has arrested three people in connection with the incident. The three are the person's mother, wife, and friend who called with false information about a bomb.

RAB Director General (DG) AKM Shahidur Rahman gave this information at a press briefing at the RAB media centre in Karwan Bazar in the capital on Saturday.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka to Kathmandu was searched extensively on Friday afternoon after a bomb threat was made. No bomb was later found on the plane. The plane departed safely for Kathmandu.

AKM Shahidur Rahman said that a man named Emon was travelling from Dhaka to Nepal with his estranged lover on a Biman Bangladeshi Airline. Emon's mother and his wife found out about this. They tried to stop Emon's journey. But somehow they were unable to. Then Emon's friends Imran suggested that if the air traffic controller of the plane was informed that there were bomb, and then maybe the flight would be stopped. Later, Emon's mother called the air traffic controllers number.
