Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act following a violent attack on the leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Gopalganj.

The case names 75 individuals and includes approximately 400 unidentified persons as accused.

The case has been lodged with Gopalganj Sadar Police Station on Friday, two days after the incident.

Confirming the development, Gopalganj Police Station officer-in-charge Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman said that more than 50 individuals have been arrested so far, and multiple police teams are conducting operations to detain others involved in the violence.

On Wednesday, NCP organized a rally and street procession in the district town.

Witnesses and party sources claimed that hundreds of activists affiliated with the Awami League and its student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League, launched an attack on the rally. The situation quickly escalated into a full-scale clash between the attackers and law enforcement.

The day-long violence turned several parts of the town into a battleground. Five young men lost their lives in the incident, and over a hundred others—including police officers and journalists—were injured.

Authorities said that the case was filed based on video evidence and witness accounts. “Anyone involved in instigating or participating in the attack will be brought to justice,” said OC Sajedur Rahman.

The situation in Gopalganj remains tense, with law enforcement maintaining a strong presence across key areas of the district.
