Jera Meghnaghat Power Limited (JMPL), located in Narayanganj, has officially commenced commercial operations, according to a statement issued on Sunday by Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC).

The plant boasts a generation capacity of 745 megawatts, making it one of the largest and most efficient power facilities in the country.

In a press release issued on Sunday, Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) announced that the plant is now operational and capable of supplying up to 5 percent of the nation's peak electricity demand.

The electricity generated will be sold to Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) valid for 22 years, reads the release.

DPDC also noted that the successful commercial launch of JMPL positions it as a significant partner in Bangladesh’s long-term energy transformation goals. The project is expected to contribute meaningfully to the country’s sustainable and reliable energy future.
