BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has labeled the attack on former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur as part of a larger conspiracy aimed at derailing the upcoming February elections.

Addressing the biennial conference of Lakshmipur Sadar (West) Upazila BNP on Saturday, Annie questioned the current state of unity within the opposition, asking, "Over a year has passed since August 5, but where is the unity we once had when we fought against fascism? Why does Nurul Haque Nur have to suffer like this today? Who is behind this attack? This is not just an attack on him, but a conspiracy against Bangladesh, its sovereignty, and the elections scheduled for February."

He criticized the ruling Awami League for its alleged repressive policies, accusing the government of stifling normal political processes, harassing opposition leaders, and using false charges to imprison, torture, and even disappear political opponents.

Annie also urged the opposition to maintain unity, especially with Jamaat-e-Islami, cautioning, "If we allow even the slightest crack in our unity, the fascists will take advantage. The enemies of the nation, the conspirators against our independence, will seize the opportunity."

The conference, held at Dalal Bazar Fatema Balika High School grounds, was chaired by Sadar (West) Upazila BNP convener Abdul Karim Bhuiyan Mizan.

Abul Khair Bhuiyan, adviser to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, and Chittagong Divisional Organizing Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim also spoke here.
