Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member and former minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has announced that the party plans to create 10 million jobs within the first 18 months of forming the government.
Speaking as the chief guest at a pre-rally gathering marking the 47th founding anniversary of the BNP, held in front of Almas Cinema in Chattogram on Monday afternoon, Amir Khasru said the dreams of the nation, as envisioned by BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman, are now within reach.
“The entire country can see itself reflected in Tarique Rahman’s dreams,” he said. “And the number one dream? Employment for the people of Bangladesh.”
He revealed that detailed plans for job creation—both domestically and abroad—have already been finalized. “Tarique Rahman has clearly stated: if the people entrust us with power, we will create one crore (10 million) jobs in the first 18 months,” Amir Khasru emphasized.
Amir Khasru stressed that the BNP’s immediate priority is the restoration of democracy through free, fair, and credible elections.
“Our first task is to restore democracy. And to do that, we must establish a democratic government through transparent elections,” he said. “We must restore the people’s ownership over the state. The future Bangladesh will be built on people’s representation and people’s sovereignty.”
He argued that only through an elected, representative parliament can the true voice of the people be heard—something he claimed is currently suppressed.
Beyond employment, the BNP has also prepared extensive plans for public welfare, Amir Khasru said. The plans include free primary healthcare for all citizens—ensuring no one has to spend out-of-pocket for basic medical treatment, massive investments in education and skills development to empower the youth and workforce, and economic democratization—a vision to allow every citizen to participate in and benefit from national development.
“This is not just about democratizing politics,” he said. “It’s about democratizing the economy. Under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, the future Bangladesh will ensure that every individual can contribute to economic growth and improve their standard of living.”
He added that numerous development projects have already been conceptualized and are ready for implementation once the BNP assumes power.
Amir Khasru issued a strong call for holding national elections in the first half of February, warning that any attempt to delay or obstruct the electoral process is an attack on democracy itself.
“If anyone tries to block the path to democracy through the election process, they are not just obstructing an election—they are obstructing democracy, people’s ownership, and the constitutional rights of the citizens of Bangladesh,” he said.
Presided over by Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Convener Ershad Ullah, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation and former President of Metropolitan BNP, Abul Hashem Bakkar, former General Secretary of Metropolitan BNP, Shamsul Alam, BNP Central Committee Member, Idris Mia, Convener of Chattogram South District BNP, Lion Helal Uddin, Member Secretary MA Aziz, Joint Convener of Metropolitan BNP, and among others, participated in the programme.
