The government is committed to overcoming all challenges to successfully complete the upcoming national election, said Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to Ministry of Industries and Housing.

He emphasized that the interim government has already begun key reforms, which will be continued by the next elected administration.

He made the remarks on Sunday while speaking as chief guest at a ship handover ceremony held at Ananda Shipyard and Slipways Limited at Meghnaghat under Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district.

The event marked the delivery of a Turkish-owned cargo vessel built in Bangladesh.

“The national election scheduled for February will be free and fair. People are eagerly waiting to celebrate the election in a festive environment,” said Khan.

He added that Bangladesh holds a proud tradition in shipbuilding, which is now one of the country’s most promising industries after the garment sector.

“We dream of seeing Bangladeshi-built ships used across the globe,” he said.

The event also featured speeches by Turkish Commercial Counsellor Belal Beliat, Additional Secretary to Ministry of Industries Md. Nuruzzaman NDC, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Zahidul Islam Mia, Ananda Shipyard Chairman Dr. Abdullah Hel Bari, AB Bank Managing Director Syed Mizanur Rahman and Ananda Shipyard Director Dr. Abdullah Najma Nowroz.

Following the speeches, ship named MV Wedge Wear; a 5,500 deadweight ton multipurpose cargo vessel, was officially handed over to Turkish company Nopack Shipping and Trading Limited.

Officials noted that the export of such vessels continues to strengthen Bangladesh’s position in global shipbuilding industry.
