A case has been filed with Tarakanda police station in Mymensingh on Saturday over forcibly cutting the hair and beard of a 70-year-old Fakir Halim Uddin.

Confirming the matter, Tarakanda police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Tipu Sultan said that the victim’s son, Mohammad Shahid Akand filed the case accusing seven named and four to five unnamed persons with the police station in this connection.

Police were trying to arrest the accused involved in the incident, the OC said, adding that legal action would be taken after proper investigation.

The incident occurred before Eid-ul-Azha in Kashiganj Bazar, where Halim was forcibly detained and shaved against his will. Despite his attempts to resist, he could not break free, repeatedly crying out, “Allah, tui dehis” (God, be the witness).

Since the incident, Halim has largely confined himself to his home. A video of the assault recently went viral on social media Facebook, prompting police to launch a formal investigation and contact the victim’s family.
