Adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan has said that a flyover is being planned at Bishwaroad in Brahmanbaria to reduce traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.
He made the remarks during an
inspection of the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Bishwaroad in Brahmanbaria around 1:00 PM on Wednesday.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges
accompanied him during the inspection.
Fauzul said that project officials have been instructed to prepare designs and oversee all aspects of the project. The increasing road congestion has also put additional pressure on the railway system, he added, promising that the problem will be resolved promptly.
Earlier in the day, he arrived in Bhairab by train at 10:15 AM, then traveled by car from Ashuganj Hotel Ujanbhati toward Sarail Bishwaroad. During the journey, he was caught in severe traffic jams at Sohagpur, Sonarampur, and Beratla areas, delaying him for three hours before reaching Bishwaroad on a motorcycle.
After the inspection, the adviser instructed 12 senior ministry officials to work from a temporary office at Bishwaroad rather than Dhaka, warning that negligence or absence would result in suspension.
Fauzul blamed the traffic congestion on the Traffic Department’s negligence and said the issue has been discussed with the Home Adviser to ensure a solution.
Officials accompanying him included Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Didarul Alam, Superintendent of Police Ehteshamul Haque, and other ministry personnel.
