Advocate Sanowar Hossain, central organising secretary of Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, has said that Awami League (AL) activists with a clean image have the right to join any political party, including AB Party.

Speaking to reporters at a reception and discussion meeting organised by AB Party at the Jamalpur District Council Hall after being nominated as the party candidate for Jamalpur-5 Sadar, Sanowar emphasised that only those responsible for wrongdoing face punishment, while the rest are free to participate in politics.

“If supporters of the Awami League like the goals and activities of AB Party, they are welcome to join. This opportunity is also open to members of any other political party,” he said.

He also spoke about the formation of a third political alliance, independent of the BNP-Jamaat coalition. He said, “AB Party, Gono Odhikar Parishad, NCP, Nagorik Oikko, Rastro Songskar Andolon and UP Bangladesh are making significant progress toward creating a common platform. Soon, a third strong alliance will emerge.”

While AB Party has not yet decided on joining any alliance for the upcoming general election, Sanowar confirmed the party is preparing to contest 300 seats.

So far, candidates have been announced for 109 constituencies, with another 100 planned to be announced by the end of this month or early next month.

The event was presided over by Md Abdul Wahab, convener of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila AB Party and attended by party leaders including Jamalpur-3 candidate Engineer Lipson Mia, district vice-convener M A Khalek, Advocate Anwar Hossain and other senior leaders.

Speakers congratulated Sanowar on his nomination and urged strengthening the party to achieve state-level power in the upcoming elections.

During the event, 10 leaders from various political parties officially joined AB Party, signalling growing momentum ahead of the elections.
