Bangladesh’s tallest national flag now flies proudly at Banglabandha land port of Tetulia upazila in Panchagarh district.

The 117-foot-high flag stand was inaugurated on Tuesday afternoon with a colourful ceremony.

Banglabandha, the country’s only four-sided land port, now hosts this landmark flag between port office and Indian border. The flag will fly throughout the day using modern technology.

Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Sabet Ali inaugurated the flag stand, which is the tallest in the country.

The event was attended by Police Superintendent (SP) Mizanur Rahman Munshi, BNP Executive Committee Secretary for Rural Development Farhad Hossain Azad, district BNP convener Jaherul Islam, Northern region chief organizer of Jatiya Nagorik Party Sarjis Alam, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Professor Iqbal Hossain and other political leaders.

After the unveiling, the guests delivered short speeches, celebrating the milestone as a historic moment for Panchagarh.

Speakers highlighted that the national flag flying at such a height would attract visitors from across the country and serve as a source of pride for all Bangladeshis.

Prior to the inauguration, a colourful rally was held from Banglabandha Customs square to the flag stand, with thousands of locals participating in the celebration.

DC Sabet Ali emphasized that Banglabandha, as the gateway to Bangladesh, had lacked a tall flag stand similar to India’s border displays. Responding to long-standing demands from local youth, the flag stand was designed architecturally to hoist the national flag prominently, fulfilling the aspirations of the next generation.
