After a hiatus of 21 months and eight days, Jamuna Fertilizer Company Limited (JFCL) has finally received gas supply to return to production, bringing relief to workers and local residents.

The Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL) restored the connection at Sunday (November 23) evening.

According to factory officials, gas pressure to JFCL, the country's only granular urea-producing factory, was reduced on January 15 last year to ensure uninterrupted production at the Ghorashal-Palash Fertilizer Factory (GPFPLC) in Narsingdi. The supply was later fully disconnected, halting production completely. Speaking on Tuesday, JFCL Acting Deputy General Manager (Administration) Delwar Hossain said, "Titas has restored the gas connection since Sunday evening. It is still too early to confirm whether the pressure is stable. It will take 10-15 days to fully receive the gas and enter production."

He stated it may take another 10-15 days to stabilize the gas supply and complete preparatory procedures before ammonia and urea production can resume.

Nearly 3,000 local workers who relied on the factory's operations became unemployed, causing widespread hardship. The restoration of gas supply has renewed hope among them.
