The deceased was identified as Rina Akhter, 45, a resident of Munshipara area under Debiganj upazila in the district. She was a head teacher of a local educational institution.

According to locals, the incident occurred when Rina was heading towards Panchagarh town with her husband on a motorcycle.

When they reached in front of the BGB camp, their motorcycle hit a speed breaker, causing both to fall onto the road. At that moment, a truck ran over Rina, killing her on the spot, and her husband, Saiful Islam, was injured.

Being informed, police and fire service personnel later recovered the body.

Confirming the incident, Panchagarh Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Ashraful Islam said that the truck involved in the incident has been seized and a case has been filed under the Road Transport Act.

Following the accident, enraged locals blocked the highway for nearly an hour, demanding the removal of illegal speed breakers from the road. Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner Kazi Md Sayemuzzaman, along with senior police officials, visited the spot and assured necessary measures to prevent further accidents. The protesters withdrew after receiving the assurance.
