The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have recovered 21 bottles of foreign liquor from a room at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.
According to university sources, the raid was conducted around 9:30PM on Sunday following a sec ret information.
The operation was led by the hall provost, Professor Abdur Razzak, with the participation of hall administration officials and members of the Hall Union.
They also detained a student named Md Fazle Ajwad of the Department of Government and Politics from the 2022–23 academic session.
He is a residential student of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall.
Of the recovered bottles, 11 were found inside a table locker, while nine more were discovered under a bed in the room.
During primary interrogation, Ajwad said hall authorities that he had brought the liquor from his village home in Jamalpur for personal use. He later said the liquor had been collected from a border area of the district to celebrate the year's end on the 31st.
Acting Provost Prof Muhammad Abdur Razzak said an investigation committee would be formed to look into the incident.
