GOPALGANJ, Jan 7: Leaders of the Awami League (AL) in Gopalganj have resigned en masse from their party posts following the ban on the party's activities, triggering widespread discussion across the upazila.

At least 50 leaders stepped down simultaneously through a joint press conference on Tuesday evening. The resignations came from leaders of Maharajpur, Bhadrashur and Bashbaria union units of the AL under Muksudpur Upazila.

Among the resigning leaders from Maharajpur and Bhadrashur unions were AL Vice-President Babul Fakir, Jagadish Chandra Biswas, Samir Kumar Biswas, Union AL Vice-President Bidhan Chandra Biswas and many more.

In a written statement read out at the press conference, the leaders said they had resigned from all party posts and designations with immediate effect. "From now on, we have no relationship with the Awami League, nor will we have any in the future," the statement said.

The mass resignation has sparked intense discussion across Muksudpur Upazila, with locals describing it as an unprecedented development in the area's political landscape.
