IU ICT dept marks silver jubilee, first reunion

Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia celebrated its silver jubilee and held its first alumni reunion with the participation of former and current students as well as faculty members on Saturday.

More than 600 participants joined the two-day program, which began on Friday with the unveiling of a souvenir, a chat session and a cultural event.

IU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah inaugurated the program through the release of balloons, in presence of Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Yeaqub Ali and Treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam.

A colourful procession was later brought out from in front of Ibn Sina Science Building and ended at Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium.

A discussion meeting was held there with VC Dr Nasrullah as the chief guest. Pro VC and Treasurer spoke as special guests, while ICT Department Chairman Professor Dr Tarek Hasan Al Mahmud presided over the programme. Professor Dr Alamgir Hossain conducted the event as convener.

Among others, the department’s founding chairman, Professor Dr Shahjahan Ali, IIER Director Professor Dr Mostafhizour Rahman, Proctor Professor Dr Shahinuzzaman and Student Adviser Professor Dr Obayedul Islam, were present.

In his speech, Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah said the reunion was an opportunity for alumni to reflect on the university’s past and present and to contribute to shaping its future, highlighting the growing role of ICT in policymaking.

The celebrations concluded with a cultural programme and a gala dinner.
