A Dhaka court has directed the complainant in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho convener Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi to appear on January 12 if he has any objections to the chargesheet.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam issued the order on Wednesday, confirmed prosecution sources.

The sources said a notice has been served on the complainant, Abdullah Al Jaber, instructing him to be present before the court on the scheduled date to raise any objections to the charge sheet.

Earlier, on January 6, Detective Branch (DB) police inspector Faisal Ahmed submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused, including prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Daud.

Of the 17 accused named in the charge sheet, 11 are currently in jail. They include Faisal Karim Masud’s father Md Humayun Kabir, mother Mst Hasi Begum, wife Saheda Parvin Samia, girlfriend Maria Akhtar Lima, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu, rent a car businessman Mufti Md Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, close associate Md Kabir, Sibion Dew, Sanjoy Chisim, Md Aminul Islam alias Raju, and Md Faisal, who was arrested with weapons in Narsingdi.

Prime accused Faisal Karim Masud and six others remain at large. The fugitives include his associate Alamgir Hossain, Dhaka North City Jubo League organizing secretary and former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Philip Snal Philips, Mukti Akhtar, and Faisal’s sister Jasmine Akhtar.

The investigation officer has sought arrest warrants against the absconding accused.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot on December 12 while campaigning after Friday prayers and heading toward Suhrawardy Udyan. Around 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him in Paltan Box Culvert area before fleeing the scene.

Hadi was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later to Evercare Hospital in critical condition. He was flown to Singapore for advanced treatment on December 15 and died there on December 18.

Following the shooting, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, filed a case with Paltan Police Station on December 14. After Hadi’s death, the case was converted into a murder case.
