Throat-slit schoolgirl found dead in Banasree

Published : Sunday, 11 January, 2026 at 12:00 AM
A 17-year-old schoolgirl, Fatema Akhter Lily, was brutally murdered with a sharp weapon on Saturday at a house in Banasree, Dhaka, leaving the local community in shock.

The incident occurred between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm at a residence named 'Pritham Villa' on the main road of South Banasree. Lily, a class 10 student of Radiant School, lived with her family in the rented house under Khilgaon police jurisdiction, police confirmed.

According to family sources, Lily was the daughter of Sajeeb Mia from Bamoin village under Lakhai police station in Habiganj district. Her parents had been away since Wednesday, attending to a land-related matter in their hometown.

Lily's elder sister, Shobha, described the grim discovery. "When I returned from the gym around 1:30 pm, I found the gate closed but the house door open, with everything in disarray. I saw my sister lying curled up under a large pot-like object. Initially, I thought she had fallen, but then I discovered a rope around her neck and her throat had been slit," she said.

Shobha added that a hotel employee, Milon, who had visited the house to collect food both on Thursday night and Saturday noon, is being suspected in connection with the murder. She also alleged that neither the house owner nor anyone else assisted when Lily was rescued and taken to Faraji Hospital by a friend using a rickshaw.
