The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man in connection with the killing of a schoolgirl in the capital's Banasree area.
According to RAB, a suspect identified as Milon. He is a restaurant worker by profession.
The arrest was made based on closed-circuit television footage and evidence that the suspect went into hiding after the incident.
MZM Intekhab Chowdhury, Wing Commander and Director of RAB's Legal and Media Wing, confirmed the arrest in a massage on Monday.
It was learnt that Milon works at the restaurant owned by victim Fatema Akter Nili's father. Nili was alone during the incident happened. But the motive behind the murder could not be known.
A case was filed on Saturday night accusing some unknown persons.
The body of Nili, a 10th-grade student at Radiant School and College, was recovered on Saturday afternoon from an apartment named 'Pritom Villa' in South Banasree’s Block L after police responded to an emergency call made to the national hotline 999. She lived with her parents, a brother and a sister. But there was no one during the murder incident.
Police said CCTV footage showed Milon entering the apartment around the time of the killing.
