JALDHAKA, NILPHAMARI, Jan 12: Jaldhaka in Nilphamari has seen a sharp rise in thefts, with eight cows and five motorcycles reportedly stolen in just 25 days.

The latest incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Zero Point in Jaldhaka, in front of Sattar Member's Hotel, where a 150cc Pulsar motorcycle was stolen. The owner, Sofikul Gani, a lecturer at Jaldhaka Government College, said, "I parked my motorcycle outside the hotel and went inside for a snack. When I came out just ten minutes later, my motorcycle was gone. It is shocking that such thefts are happening in a crowded area, just a few hundred metres from the police station." Gani is the son of Motlubur Rahman from Uttar Deshibai in Kathali Union.

Earlier, on the night of December 23, a cow was stolen from the home of Mina Rani, widow of Ishwar Chandra Roy, in the Hindu neighborhood of Bagulghari Ward No. 4. On December 24, a 100cc Bajaj motorcycle belonging to Vishal Chandra Roy, son of late Har Dayal from South Beruband Bazar, Shimulbari Union, was stolen after thieves cut through the compound fence.

On December 25, a Bajaj City 100cc motorcycle belonging to Ziaul Haque, son of the late Kharia Mamud from Kaimari Tutuapara, was stolen in front of the gas pump near the municipal cow market. Earlier, on the night of December 15, thieves broke into the cowshed of Shamim Nawaz and Suman Nawaz, sons of Hafizur Rahman from Purbalagram, and stole five local cows.

Other incidents include the theft of a motorcycle belonging to Abdur Razzak Rinku, son of Ruhul Amin from Amrulbari, in front of the Jaldhaka Petrol Pump Mosque on December 13, and on December 14, the motorcycle of Atikul Islam, son of Monir Uddin from Cherenga Dakur Danga, was stolen near the cow market. On the same night, two cows were also taken from the cowshed of Sushanta Chandra Roy, son of Chhita Nanda Roy, from the same area.

The spate of thefts has created widespread fear among local residents and business owners.
When asked about the incidents, Officer-in-Charge of Jaldhaka Police Station Nazmul Alam said, "So far, nine thieves have been arrested and sent to jail, and two stolen motorcycles have been recovered. Our operations to catch the remaining culprits are ongoing."
