Govt to promote ‘Yes’ vote in educational institutions

The government has announced plans to conduct a nationwide campaign in universities, colleges, schools and madrasahs to encourage students to vote ‘Yes’ in the upcoming referendum scheduled for February 12.

The decision was made at a meeting held on Sunday at University Grants Commission (UGC) office, attended by officials from Secondary and Higher Education Division, Technical and Madrasah Education Division, National University (NU) and UGC. 

Key participants included Chief Adviser’s special assistants Professor Dr. Ali Riaz and Monir Haidar, UGC Chairman Professor Dr. SMA Faiz, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Rehana Perven, Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Muhammad Rafiqul, NU Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah, and UGC Member Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan.

As part of the campaign, students will receive leaflets and booklets titled “Yes for Change”. 

Additionally, documentaries, video clips and songs related to the referendum will be distributed through mobile platforms and university social media channels. 

Banners, festoons and stickers will also be displayed across educational institutions to raise awareness.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Adviser’s special assistant Dr. Ali Riaz said the referendum is a step toward dismantling the existing fascist state structure and establishing a truly democratic system through state reforms. 

He stressed that voting ‘Yes’ is essential for creating a humane and democratic state, leaving no alternative for students and citizens alike.
