GOPALGANJ, Jan 18: Three people, including a grandmother and her grandchild, have died from electrocution in Kashiani Upazila.

The incident occurred around 8:30 pm on Saturday in Tetuliya Village of Rajpat Union, Kashiani Upazila. The deceased are: Rahela Begum, 50, wife of Mosharraf Sikdar of Tetuliya Village; her grandson, Saifan Sikdar, 8, son of Sajib Sikdar; and their neighbour, Iran Sikdar, 55.

Mukusdapur-Kashiani Assistant Police Superintendent (Circle) Mir Sajedur Rahman confirmed the news.

He stated that near the house of Sajib Sikdar in Tetuliya Village, Kashiani Upazila, a fence had been made using electric wires to protect Boro rice seedlings from rats. Initially, the child Saifan was electrocuted due to a leakage from the wire.

His grandmother Rahela Begum rushed to save him and was also electrocuted, dying on the spot. Their neighbour, Iran Sikdar, also died on the spot while trying to save them.

In this incident, Rahela Begum's grandson Saifan was critically injured. With the help of locals, Saifan was admitted to Mukusdapur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
