Rangpur Riders suffered a dramatic exit from Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as Sylhet Titans chased down a modest target of 112, sealed by Chris Woakes’ sensational six off the final ball at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
Needing six runs off the last delivery, Woakes stayed calm against a wide yorker from Faheem Ashraf and sent it over the ropes, sparking wild celebrations in the Sylhet dugout.
Rangpur’s valiant effort to defend 111/9 fell just short, ending their campaign in heartbreaking fashion.
Rangpur’s innings had been dominated by Sylhet’s seam attack, with Khaled Ahmed claiming 4 for 14 and Woakes taking 2 for 15. Wicket-keeper Parvez Hossain Emon supported with four sharp catches.
During the chase, Sylhet faltered at 44/4 and 105/7, but crucial contributions from Sam Billings (29) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (18), combined with Woakes’ finishing heroics, carried them to a thrilling victory, setting up a spot in Qualifier 2.
