A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the seizure of property owned by Jahangir Alam, former personal secretary to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and froze seven bank accounts belonging to his wife, Kamrun Nahar.
Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the orders following two separate applications filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court directed the seizure of 35 decimals of land in Noakhali valued at Tk1.33 crore and a 1,385-square-foot flat in Mirpur worth Tk41.82 lakh.
The frozen bank accounts of Kamrun Nahar reportedly hold deposits exceeding Tk1.03 crore.
ACC petitions alleged that Jahangir Alam had acquired wealth beyond his known sources of income and highlighted a risk that the assets could be transferred during the investigation.
